Today, we’ll be focusing on another popular use for this cannabinoid – CBD for skin care.
As with many things in the world of CBD, research in this area is still in the early stages. However, CBD oil does show a lot of promise for helping the millions of individuals affected by skin problems.
CBD for Skin Care
As you know from previous posts, CBD works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system to produce therapeutic effects in the body.
One of the beneficial effects of CBD is its ability to fight inflammation. And one of the most well-known (and one of the most irritating) inflammatory skin conditions is acne.
CBD and Acne
Although many of us associate acne with our teenage years, this frustrating skin condition can affect us at all ages. While there are hundreds of products out there designed to help – not everyone benefits from these treatments.
That’s why so many people have started turning to the healing properties of CBD for help with acne. Although research in this area is in the early stages, there is one study from several years ago that points to why CBD may help with acne.
In the study, mice with skin inflammation were given a topical solution containing CBD. After 24 hours, the area of the skin where CBD was applied was back to normal. And, after 72 hours, the benefits of the CBD oil remained.
In addition to this study, other more recent studies have shown that the therapeutic effects of CBD may help manage acne and other irritating skin conditions.
Anti-aging Effects of CBD
When we think of “anti-aging”, we often think of looking and feeling like we did when we were much younger. While this might be unrealistic, there are some proven ways to slow the rate at which our skin is affected by age.
CBD is relatively new to the anti-aging scene, but early studies are showing that it may help us deal with the everyday stresses and effects of aging – especially when it comes to our skin.
One recent study indicated that CBD can help protect the skin against external stresses, by assisting in the process of melanogenesis. This means that CBD may be able to help prevent discoloring of the skin and protect against other prominent signs of skin aging.
CBD Skin Care Products
If you haven’t seen a CBD skin care product at your local drugstore yet, you likely will soon. From Walgreens to Sephora, CBD beauty products are becoming increasingly popular.
So why has CBD for skin care become so popular?
A big reason is that more and more women are turning to cannabis and CBD as part of their wellness routine. In fact, according to a new article at bustle.com, research shows that women are 67% more likely than men to use cannabis or CBD for personal care.
In addition, the CBD market overall is booming – with sales of CBD products expected to reach $22 billion by 2022.
However, as with everything related to CBD, research here is still in the early stages. That’s why it’s important for anyone who is thinking about using CBD for skin care to educate themselves on the pros and cons of CBD.
And, as always, be sure to discuss CBD with your doctor before trying it!
