In an earlier post, we discussed the increasing popularity of using CBD for pain relief. Today, we’ll be focusing on CBD for athletes.
If you have ever played a competitive sport, or taken place in an individual competition, like a 5K race, then you know that injuries and pain are part of the process.
And as more and more athletes begin to turn away from traditional treatment options and medications, CBD has become a go-to option for many.
So today, we’ll be focusing on CBD for athletes. We’ll discuss why it might help, what the latest research says, and introduce two professional rugby players who have used CBD to recover from injury and are now starting a business to help professional and amateur athletes.
CBD and Injury Recovery
CBD is part of a class of substances called cannabinoids. Cannabinoids, like CBD and its close cousin THC, work by interacting with the endocannabinoid system.
The endocannabinoid system is critical for maintaining health and wellness. Cannabinoids, like CBD and THC, are able to influence the endocannabinoid system, leading to beneficial effects, including pain relief and a decrease in inflammation.
While research on CBD is still in the early stages, many studies are focusing on the potential for CBD to help treat pain and inflammation. One of these recent studies reviewed the impact of CBD on pain relief and injury recovery in athletes. The study included a group that took just CBD, as well as another group who took CBD in combination with THC.
Interestingly, the combination of THC and CBD was the most effective option for managing pain and assisting in injury recovery.
However, this doesn’t mean that CBD does not offer beneficial effects for athletes seeking an alternative option for pain relief and injury recovery. CBD was effective on its own, but adding THC to the mix seemed to increase the pain-relieving effects.
While this study is an important step in learning more about the pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects of CBD, more research will be needed to confirm these findings.
In the meantime, many professional athletes who have used CBD for themselves are going all-in on the cannabinoid. A few of them believe in the healing properties of CBD so much, that they have invested their time and money into creating their own line of CBD-based products.
CBD for Athletes
While new CBD companies seem to pop up on a daily basis, it’s not everyday that professional athletes start their own brand of CBD products.
However, two professional rugby players recently did just that. Dom Day and George Kruis have both experienced plenty of injuries and dealt with chronic pain over their many years playing rugby.
And ask anyone who has played rugby before, and they’ll tell you that injuries are the norm, not the exception.
So when Dom and George discovered that CBD helped them recover more quickly from injury and deal with injury-related pain more effectively, they decided to start their own brand of CBD.
They call the company Fourfivecbd. And the products they offer are intended to help other rugby players and professional athletes deal with injuries and chronic pain.
And as more research is conducted on CBD, we will likely hear more stories about athletes who have discovered the healing properties of CBD and other cannabinoids.
